Job Description Job Description Description: Position: SFMH Clinical Supervisor Accountability: Program Director Job Status: Regular Full time, (Exempt) Hybrid Status: E4.2 Revised: February 2026 Clinical Supervisor San Francisco Mental Health (SFMH) Program Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Clinical Supervisor serves in a dual-role capacity, providing both clinical supervision and direct mental health services. Approximately sixty percent of the position is dedicated to supervising and supporting the clinical work of assigned staff, while the remaining forty percent involves carrying a direct service caseload. The role supports children and youth ages 0–21 and their families, many of whom have current or past involvement with the child welfare system. The primary function of the role is to oversee the clinical work of assigned mental health clinicians. Responsibilities include reviewing assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans for Medi-Cal compliance; providing weekly individual supervision and case consultation; offering clinical guidance on treatment interventions; and ensuring adherence to agency and regulatory standards. The supervisor also collaborates with internal and external partners to support coordinated and effective service delivery. In addition to supervisory duties, the position maintains a direct service caseload. Responsibilities include completing clinical assessments, providing individual, dyadic, or family therapy, facilitating Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, coordinating care with child welfare and community providers, and maintaining timely, accurate, and compliant documentation. Total compensation includes a base salary, a sign-on bonus, 12 paid holidays, a paid year-end office closure, and comprehensive benefits. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide reflective individual and/or group supervision of mental health clinicians. Oversight of clinicians’ clinical work. Oversight of clinicians’ administrative duties in order to meet MediCal and other compliance requirements including meeting required deadlines. Oversight of evaluation process of employees. Assist clinicians in meeting A Better Way standards, including billing and service delivery expectations Maintain a caseload of clients, including completing intake assessments, providing direct therapy and facilitating Child and Family Team (CFT) Meetings, and meeting all requirements for direct client care and CFTs. Attend appropriate meetings, which include weekly supervision, staff meetings, and leadership and other trainings. Follows all procedures and protocols related to contract and accreditation requirements. Follow regulatory guidelines, mandated reporting, and program/agency protocols in performing duties. Abide by all provisions of the A Better Way personnel manual. Collaborate with Program Director to provide programmatic support as needed. Perform any other duties as directed Qualifications and Characteristics Desired: LCSW; must be licensed with BBS. Eligible to supervise and meet BBS training requirements for supervision Excellent clinical and writing skills. Direct experience working with diverse racial and ethnic populations. Familiarity and experience in working with children and their families in the 0-21 age range. Specific knowledge of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health treatment and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) preferred. Strong understanding of theoretical and developmental principles of trauma and community-based mental health. Understanding of reflective supervision. Knowledge, understanding, and willingness to work with interdisciplinary approaches and partnerships, particularly within the child welfare system. Understanding of the DSM-5 and/or DC 0-5, and the development of family focused assessments and treatment plans. Experience using electronic health systems (such as Exym, Avatar, or Epic). Ability to work independently and to work as a member of a team. Strong capacity to take initiative, seek out answers, and approach problems with curiosity. Have a learning mindset. Knowledge and/or certification with using the Child and Adolescent Needs Assessment (CANS) and other standardized assessment measures. Excellent organizational, computer, interpersonal and communication skills. Must have a car and good driving record Ability to undergo Livescan check and meet required standards needed to work with children. Supervision experience preferred Bilingual in Spanish preferred Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting or in the community. The San Francisco office is located at 832 Folsom Street in the SoMa neighborhood. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Full-time. Work schedule Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on client and program need; evenings may be required. Eligible for partial remote work, with supervisor approval. Travel Local travel to various worksites is required. Work Authorization/Security Clearance Livescan check, TB and health clearance, Covid-19 vaccination including boosters.
