Location: Auburn Department Overview Power Generation operates and
maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and
battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts
of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 1000 coworkers
are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective
generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner.
Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a
pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200
miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural
gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station
in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway
Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar
generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as
PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our
Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.
Position Summary The Power Generation Inspector plays a critical
role in providing construction inspection services, contractor
safety oversight, and environmental compliance for all Hydro
Generation departments including project management, outage
management, contract management, engineering, diving, construction,
land management and operations and maintenance. This job oversees
contractor’s scope of work performed and associated work
evolutions, corrective actions and trends, and develops and shares
lessons learned from contractor incidents. This role possesses
specialized field experience to engage our contractors and
subcontractors, growing our collaboration with them, and
effectively managing their daily performance on safety and quality.
The role includes responsibility of timely notification to
appropriate stakeholders about any safety, quality, scope, schedule
and costs issues. This position will liaise with the corporate
contractor safety program team as the PG&E site representative
to ensure Power Generation compliance with established company
contractor safety standard. PG&E is providing the salary range
that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this
position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is
specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an
individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not
limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications,
experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role
will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the
decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these
factors. A reasonable salary range is: California Minimum: $97,000
California Maximum: $154,000 Job Responsibilities - Performs field
inspection services on complex, fluid and/or longer duration work
activities for both internal and contractor-performed jobs within
the PG&E Hydroelectric Generation System. Manages safety and
quality of construction activities to ensure compliance with
applicable plans, specifications, standards, codes and agency
requirements - Verifies and enforces PG&E contractor safety
standard and utility contractor oversight procedure at the jobsite
including enforcing contractor-submitted site-specific safety
plans, completing field safety observations, validating third-party
administrator contractor grades and badging requirements,
completing safety performance evaluations and other field oversight
responsibilities. - Conducts and participates in worksite safety
orientations, daily tailboards and Job Safety Analyses (JSA)
development and review to ensure all hazards and mitigations are
addressed for work performed, including Infrequently Performed High
Risk work. - Works with Corporate Safety, project management,
engineering, construction or O&M personnel in the field to
develop and coordinate corrective or mitigating actions as required
to abate hazards and restore contractor personnel safety and
compliance at the jobsite. - Provides oversight on air quality
monitoring and abatement activities such asbestos, lead-paint and
other regulated materials to ensure company, utility, and agency
environmental compliance. Works with work groups to ensure permit
requirements are satisfied and required documents are retained. -
Reviews, interprets and understands executed contract, including
verifying inclusions and exclusions of scope of work, technical
specifications, contract payment terms, field changes, and labor,
equipment and material (LM&E) documentation. - Works with
project management, engineering, construction or O&M job Leads
to communicate job progress, status, changes, issues and risks.
Liaises with contractor work supervisor in the field to coordinate
and decide on appropriate actions to maintain conformance with the
executed contract. - Prepares and maintains field documentation
through construction phase including detailed inspection reports or
daily logs, progress photographs, as-built markups/redlines and
observations. Professionally communicates and facilitates
Request-For-Information (RFI) transactions between onsite
contractor and offsite PG&E stakeholders (engineer, project
lead). - Performs Qualified Electrical Observer (QEO) duties for
non-electrical workers working near energized equipment including
reviewing and interpreting electrical diagrams, schematics and
mechanical drawings. - Performs field testing on civil
infrastructure including concrete, asphalt, structural steel,
grouting and engineered fill. Determines quality, materials and
workmanship through inspection, and conformance with
specifications. Performs associated laboratory testing (offsite) to
support field test results. Qualifications Minimum: - Minimum
Qualifications: - High school diploma or general education degree
(GED) or equivalent. - Valid California Class C driver’s license,
or equivalent - 6 years of journeymen or equivalent experience in
the construction industry - Physical demands required for the
successful performance of this job include standing and/or walking
for long hours in a day on uneven and steep terrain, and possibly
during variable weather conditions. - Must be comfortable
living/working in remote/rural areas. - Travel within PG&E’s
Power Generation Hydro service territory, up to 100% of time.

Institute (ACI) Certification for Field Concrete Testing -
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification - CPR/First Aid
certified - Manufacturer certification for Transportation and Use
of Portable Nuclear Gauge - Experience leading a work crew of
craftsmen (e.g., Sub Foreman, Working Foreman or equivalent
experience). - Experience in quality assurance, lab testing and/or
hydro generation industry. - Experience with field testing on civil
infrastructures. - Experience working under deadlines in a dynamic
environment that often lacks predictability due to external
influence. - Experience leading teams and/or contractors. -
Knowledge and understanding of current local, state and federal
regulations pertaining to construction and contractor safety. -
Knowledge and understanding of PG&E and industry-specific
electrical standards, PG&E Contractor Safety Program,
ISNetWorld and Gold Shovel, and other relevant safety policies,
theories, concepts, methods, best practices and techniques. -
Extensive and substantial practical knowledge and experience in
heavy rotating equipment operation, mechanical design, material
selection and repair techniques. - Proficient in the use of various
computer programs, and willingness to embrace new technology as it
becomes available. - Proficient in technical writing to facilitate
understanding of procedures or service. - Proficient at conducting
hazard evaluations for complex jobs and recommending appropriate
controls. - Proficient in developing, assisting, or drafting
communications to all levels of leadership. - Demonstrated ability
to inspire others and get them to take action without always using
